Happy Birthday to Spin Serpent!
(Actually Spin Serpent was created on Feb 5th 2012 but the party starts today.)
It has been a year of fun, trials and more fun. We here at Spin Serpent have worked tirelessly to bring anything connected to monsters, heroes and villains. From Gods to super heroes to villains bent on taking over the world. We have shared videos, articles, reviews and information on everything connected with the legends new and old. We have covered monsters of all shapes and sizes and brought to light monsters that may even exist in the real world.
It has been a journey and an experience. Let us go back to 5 popular articles that helped shape Spin Serpent into the twisted beauty before you.
5. Gorillaz: Monsters of Media
Gorillaz was one of our break out articles. It talked about the famous band and how they crossed many worlds from zombies to unlikely musician heroes. Gorillaz fans are pretty rabid and we love them for it. Carl was real proud of this article that he couldn't stop talking about it.
4. The Legend of The Headless Horseman
This legend captures the true essence of a great ghost story. The story endures and finds new believers every night. It carries on like the poor Horseman who is forever looking for his head. Ruben really outdid himself by researching the legend and writing about variations of the Headless Horseman. The Headless biker was my favorite part.
3. The God of The Ocean: Poseidon
Poseidon has always been a favorite god of the oceans. His power speaks to many on a deep and almost spiritual level. Rubens research really brought to light some of the best things about Poseidon and even some of the dark parts of his history. When this was published I got the feeling Ruben didn't expect it to become as popular as it did. I don't think any of us did. I believe Ruben was happy just sharing the knowledge.
2. Smaug: The Most Powerful Dragon of the Third Age
Smaug, the dragon that took my breath away from childhood to adulthood. The article was labor of love and I hope it came out in the writing. Sharing such a favorite villain/monster with the world did bring a deep sense of wonderment out there for the world to see.
1. Slender Man
Our most popular article to date. The story of Slender Man was a look at a ghost story that works on many subtle levels. It was a pure joy to dive into the online legend of Slender Man and spread the knowledge of this spooky ghost story.
Let us ease down onto a more serious note. Spin Serpent has always been a labor of love. We are not a news site. We fancied ourselves as more of a playground blog dedicated to all the monsters, heroes and villains we love/hate. A place to talk about histories and legends from Batman to the Loch Ness monster. We have had some rough times trying to make deadlines or even hitting dry spells of what to write about. I wish I could say it was always roses but like any labor of love, you work it out. The best part is fighting through the tough times and just remembering that this site is here for people to connect to and enjoy.
And if you really feel the need to get Spin Serpent a gift, spreading the word is the best gift anyone could give. (Really, best gift.)
On behalf of the everyone who helped make this blog possible, we thank you for reading!
